A MOTHER was killed after she was thrown off a converted tricycle being ridden by her husband-to-be, an inquest heard.
Julia Jones, aged 49, of Hudson Close, Honeybourne, near Evesham, was the pillion passenger of the vehicle ridden by David Churchley for only the third time.
Mrs Jones died at the scene of the accident on the B4035 Badsey Road, Evesham, on Saturday, March 13, the same stretch of road on which her brother had died in a motorcycle accident 28 years ago.
Mr Round said the Honda tricycle had been converted from a motorcycle using a car axle, which was legal but made it difficult to drive.
Mr Round added: "The trike had been bought for Mrs Jones by Mr Churchley and he said it was difficult to steer and handle over 50mph.
Thrown
"The vehicle left the road, passed through a hedge and bushes and both Mr Churchley and Mrs Jones were thrown into heavy undergrowth."
Mr Churchley, who suffered a broken leg and chest injuries, cannot remember the accident.
Mr Round said: "He remembers he was riding and remembers the road but can't remember the last few minutes.
"It has been suggested the subsoil of the road had been disturbed by animals burrowing.
"If one wheel had gone into the humps, it's almost certain it affected the handling."
Mrs Jones had two adult sons, Mark and Jamie, and was a foster carer and housewife.
Mr Round said: "The accident probably occurred through a mixture of inexperience of riding tricycles and maybe the road surface."
He recorded a verdict of accidental death.
