TORY parliamentary spokesperson Karen Lumley has again hit out at post office closures, saying Conservatives are 'appalled' at recent decisions to cut services across the town.
Mrs Lumley said post office trade was declining as a result of legislation aimed at cutting cash payments in favour of payments into bank, building society and post-office card accounts.
She said: "We are appalled that once again we are faced with more post office closures.
"We are on the edge of a very slippery slope where we may see many more closing. Where does all this stop?"
Her comments followed a full council meeting earlier this month in which Councillor Albert Wharrad submitted a notice of motion totally opposing the closures.
The call to keep the post offices open was supported by all parties.
