GENEROUS pupils at a city school have collected more than 600 cans for the Harvest Festival, which will be donated to pensioners in St John's.
This is just one of a number of fund-raising activities students and staff at Christopher Whitehead High School, Malvern Road, have been involved in during the first half term.
Year 8 students raised £1,000 for the Haiti disaster fund, set up to help the victims of Hurricane Jeanne, which devastated the Caribbean nation killing more than 1,500 people, by holding a "skip-athon."
Students are also collecting stationery, books and sports equipment for schools in Mozambique, where teacher, Becky Woods, is taking a year out.
She remains in contact via e-mail and appealed for students to help provide resources for the schools.
However, the cost of sending the equipment to the African country is around £300.
The school is appealing for donations from city residents and businesses to raise the money.
Anyone who can help should contact the school on 01905 423906.
