Pershore Tn 2, Coleshill Tn 1
STRUGGLING Pershore pulled off an excellent Midland Combination Premier Division success last Saturday.
The high-flying visitors had the better of the early exchanges and they might have taken the lead on more than one occasion but, once Pershore got into their stride, there was only ever going to be one result.
The hosts took the lead after 23 minutes when a visiting defender under pressure from Mark Goodman knocked the ball beyond his own goalkeeper and Andy Hodgetts fired the ball into the roof of the net.
Ten minutes later an excellent break by midfielder Richard Biddle saw his fierce cross shot deflected into the net.
Although Pershore's play belied their lowly league position, they were unable to add to their score and suffered an uncomfortable final two minutes when Coleshill pulled a goal back following a penalty controversially awarded against Rob Bastock.
It looked as though the spot-kick would count for nothing when goalkeeper Nathan Smith saved superbly, but the ball rebounded into the path of the kicker who fired the rebound into the net.
Town added another point to their tally after a 1-1 draw at Bloxwich on Tuesday night. Lee Goodman grabbed the equaliser and Pershore were livid that a foul on Will Pedley didn't bring them a late penalty.
It's Barnt Green away on Saturday when latest recruit Mark Rollins is set for a debut.
