PROUD Alvechurch Lions FC have become a roaring success.
What started out as a kick about for just six football-mad youngsters last year has now gripped the village.
The Lions, who play in the Central Warwickshire League, now boast eight full- strength teams and more than 100 players.
Alvechurch Lions spokesman Andy Cramp said: "It's just fantastic the amount of support from parents we have had, it's more than we could have dreamed of.
"But it wouldn't have been possible without the support of the new managers and Alvechurch Parish Council."
The Lions Under- 9s team was split into two under 10s and was soon joined by under 7s, 8s and 9s.
Alvechurch Minors then became the under-11s team before an approach came from two girls teams who joined to form the under-12s and under-14s.
The club have attracted sponsorship from a number of companies, including The Future Group, Stirchley Bacon, PJP Poultry, Orford Plant Hire and are now looking for sponsors of tracksuits and winter coats for all the teams.
