THERE have been references in the paper to Droitwich people as 'Spartans'.
My ancestors were local salt makers for centuries and this made-up name is insulting to all Droitwich natives.
Spartans were a pre-Christian, east Mediterranean, military race, notorious as homicidal maniacs, and enslaving peaceful neighbours.
The local name for Droitwich natives for at least two centuries has been 'Monners', derived from addressing each other as man or woman in the local accent/dialect pronounced Mon or Um-Mon. It is still used today.
