Redditch 15

WITH confidence sky-high at Bromsgrove Road these days, Redditch visited league newcomers Birmingham CS knowing another victory could stretch their lead at the top of North Midlands One.

In torrential rain, CS showed their strength was up front. But it was Redditch who scored first with a Will Wilson penalty 12 minutes in.

The Redditch line came under some intense pressure, but defended well and it was the Kingfishers who ended the half on top as Tom Elmes outran the Civil's defence to score under the posts with Wilson converting.

The rain continued to pour after the break, but the Kingfishers showed their dominance with two disallowed tries before they finally turned their pressure into points.

Alekna burst through the CS defence before eventually crossing the line with ball and three CS defenders.

Team manager Steve Moore said: "One thing that could not be faulted was the workrate of all the players, but especially the pack as they trudged through the mud making the most of the conditions."

"It wasn't only a win, but another shut out - we've only had 18 points scored against in five games, proving we have one of the tightest defences in all the leagues."

Redditch travel to third placed Upton on Saturday.
