THE daughter of a former Droitwich Spa Mayor is working tirelessly to raise the profile of a charity close to her heart.

Five years ago, Sue Walton completed a solo 800-mile bike ride across Great Britain to raise £1,000 for the asthma charity Give A Child Health.

A television crew filmed the gruelling trek and now she is desperately trying to get the documentary made and screened to raise the charity's profile.

She is also hoping to enlist the help of BBC Radio Two presenter Terry Wogan and GMTV.

"I would love for GMTV'S Get up and Give campaign to raise money for this charity and get it nationwide recognition," she said.

As a child Sue, who now lives in Ladywood, near Droitwich, suffered from chronic asthma and if it was not for Give A Child Health, she might not have reached adulthood.

The charity sends children with asthma on a respite trip to the French Alps. At the age of seven, Sue was sent on a similar trip to Switzerland, lasting six months.

"My parents said the trip was a miracle. Before I went I was a pale, breathless child but while I was there I was glowing and healthy, and climbing mountains," said Sue, whose late mother was town councillor Anne Walton.

Now aged 40 she wants to help youngsters with chronic asthma benefit from the same experience.

"I still suffer from asthma and have to take three inhalers a day but without this charity I would never have had the chance to lead a normal life."

Donations for the Give A Child Health fund can be sent to Sue at Lock Cottage, Ladywood, Droitwich, WR9 0AJ.
