A SPA business group is planning to revamp its image with the hope of attracting new members and gaining much-needed support.

Members of Droitwich Association for Retail, Trade and Service (DARTS) discussed their ideas at a recent meeting.

They suggested one of the main reasons memberships are down is because many traders think DARTS is just for shopkeepers.

DARTS chairman Richard Brighton said: "We have got to involve more of the wider business community. Retail is not just what the organisation is about."

Jill Campbell, Droitwich Spa Town Officer, who has recently completed a study of High Street traders' thoughts, added: "The study says there very little support for DARTS."

They discussed re-launching DARTS as the Droitwich Spa Chamber of Commerce, as a way of making it clearer that it is open to all businesses.

Terry Spencer, DARTS member and town and district councillor said: "We have got to do a proper marketing job. We should re-launch as the Droitwich Spa Chamber of Commerce. People will then see us as other than a retail group."

However, Mrs Campbell added: "I don't know if changing the name of the animal is going to be enough."

Carol Hinett, advertising manager of the Advertiser suggested offering free membership to businesses willing to get more involved with DARTS.

The group was also concerned many residents and business folk were not aware of all the events they were responsible for organising, including the annual Christmas lights and music festival.

"Most of the High Street expected 'the council' to put on events," said Mrs Campbell.
