A NEW set of traffic signals has been given the green light by two of Droitwich Spa's civic leaders.
Worcestershire county councillors for Droitwich Pam Davey and Peter Pinfield officially opened the new lights at the junction of Tagwell Road and Worcester Road on Monday. Earlier in the month the two councillors opened a pelican crossing at the junction of Tagwell and Dovecote roads.
Cllr Davey (Con-Central) said: "Officers are to be congratulated for finding a way out of the technical problems which have delayed the provision of these lights for five years. Regretfully the actual installation work has been fraught with difficulties and delays outside the control of the county.
"Now at last we shall all be able to enjoy the benefit of safe manoeuvring across this very busy junction."
Labour Cllr Pinfield (West) added: "This is a major piece of road safety which will benefit everyone that uses this busy junction, especially children, the elderly and young mums going into town.
"It is a significant investment on behalf of the county council and will go a long way to making Droitwich a safer place.
"There are still a number of other hot spots in and around the town that I would like to see tackled and over time I am sure the traffic safety team at County Hall will address these."
