IF you only watch this disaster movie for the special effects, it will be worth it because they are fantastic and quite spectacular.
However, this film actually sends out quite a worrying message about the dangers of global warming and the devastating effect it can have on our planet.
But not to dwell too much on what could happen in the real world...back in movie land, global warming triggers the onset of a new ice age.
First there are the tornadoes which sweep through Los Angeles leaving devastation in their wake, then comes the massive tidal wave to wipe out New York City.
As the entire northern hemisphere begins to freeze climatologist Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid) makes a desperate bid to locate his son Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal) who is stranded along with a few other survivors in a New York library.
Yes, this film is far-fetched, but at the same time it is very watchable and very much edge-of-the-seat stuff.
It also makes you think about the real consequences of global warming.
If this film is anything to go by, we are all doomed!
