SEVERAL weeks ago, some brave souls slept out on the streets of Redditch to raise cash to help homeless youngsters in the town.

On August 21, Redditch Nightstop, joined by supporters from various companies, held a sponsored sleep out to raise funds for the vital work it does.

Th team consisted of James Schwartz from Chicago Rock, Dawn Cooke & Charlotte Nicholls from the Abbey, Elaine Hill from Sure Start, Jackie Hooper from Connexions and Gill Groom representing Nightstop.

Staff at Chicago Rock nightclub promoted Nightstop throughout the evening and together with sponsors from agencies represented, a total of £726.14 was raised.

But the good news did not end there. After the event was over, the Abbey bank generously matched this donation.

A Nightstop spokesman said: "The final amount raised of £1,452.28 will go towards ensuring the homeless youth of Redditch will be able to enjoy a warm, comfortable winter."

Nightstop takes referrals from organisations, including the Salvation Army and the police and provides emergency accommodation for 16-25 year olds with host families around the town where volunteers can offer youngsters practical support.

The teenagers can also receive resettlement support for up to 12 months.

The group relies heavily on donations from the public and volunteer host families. Anyone who would like to help should call Gill Groom on 66036.
