A SUCCESSFUL Kidderminster restoration project will feature in a London exhibition celebrating the 10th anniversary of the National Lottery.
The 13th century Broadwaters Mill was refurbished in a scheme driven by Friends of Broadwaters and boosted by a grant from lottery chiefs.
To mark 10 years of the lottery, an exhibition is being held at the Tate Modern. It is in the form of a giant interactive maze, containing 250 items.
Among them will be the Olympic boat in which Matthew Pinsent and his crew mates won gold medals at the Athens Olympics this year.
It also includes the ferry ticket of a Second World War veteran who received funding to return to France for this year's 60th anniversary D-Day commemorations.
Each exhibition item has been chosen to illustrate an individual story of ways the lottery has affected lives throughout the country. Some exhibits are audio and visual displays.
Friends of Broadwaters have donated a model of a mill wheel to represent how a grant from the lottery's heritage fund enabled them to refurbish the mill, working in partnership with Wyre Forest District Council.
Improvements made possible by the grant included refurbishment of the weir and sluice gates, replacement of old benches with new seating and re-roofing the mill building.
The friends' fund-raising officer, Jane Abraham, said members were "absolutely delighted" to have been invited to submit an exhibition display item. "There's such a lot of positive feeling about what's happening so I think we're just delighted it's been such a success," she added.
Arts Minister, Estelle Morris, who is responsible for the lottery, said: "The National Lottery has raised over £16 billion for more than 180,000 life-changing projects across the UK.
"The maze at Tate Modern is a unique way for the public to find out how the National Lottery has touched lives and made a real impact throughout the UK.
"It will be a great tribute to the lottery's success."
The exhibition will be held over two days - the lottery's 10th anniversary, Saturday, November 6, and Sunday, November 7. Admission is free.
The lottery's £10 million jackpot-only anniversary draw on Saturday, November 6, will be broadcast live on BBC1 from the Tate Modern.
