WEDNESDAY CLUB: A group of 25 members left Mickleton at midday and after a beautiful drive on the Cheltenham Road members arrived at Gloucester Cathedral at 1.15pm. Two guides had been organised to take the group around the building and members were not disappointed. Teas was taken in the undercroft.
On Wednesday, October 20, John Wilson from Coggeshall Farm and museum talked to members about shepherds. John brought along with him masses of shepherd lore and ancient tools, dress and equipment and explained their uses. The next meeting is on November 3 - A sort of two-person Music Hall.
GARDENING CLUB: At the October meeting the chairman informed members that an invitation to attend an illustrated talk on Woodlands on November 1 had been received from The Mickleton Society. Tickets were on sale for the annual supper, to be held on November 12. Next year the Gardening Club holiday is April 22 to 25 with the New Forest being the venue. The garden at the front of the village hall has been planted by committee members, following the winning plan submitted earlier in the year. Members were asked to submit ideas for a new motto for next year's club programme. A trip to the Nerine Nursery at Welland had been enjoyed with the weather being kinder than expected.
The chairman welcomed guest speaker Reg Moule, who is plant advisor to Hurrens Nurseries and a regular broadcaster on Radio Hereford and Worcester. He gave a talk on Grasses and proved that this does not have to be a 'dry subject'. Acting Chairman, Ena Thompson thanked Mr Moule. The competition was Three Cultivated Grass Stems, won by Lisa Jolliffe.
