KIDDERMINSTER army major Peter Cotton is on the crest of a wave after helping to pioneer a new form of watersports in the forces.

The 35-year-old was one of 25 competitors to take part in the army's first wakeboarding championships at Willen Lake in Milton Keynes.

Wakeboarding is a variation on water-skiing with participants being towed along by speedboats while standing on a type of surf board.

Cotton said: "I started taking part in the sport in April last year after driving past a lake where I saw someone wakeboarding.

"It inspired me to have a go and I haven't looked back since."
