INTERNATIONAL Super-kart racer Nathan Freke returned to his karting roots at the weekend, racing in the TKM Extreme class at Three Sisters, near Wigan.

Driving his Project One/Century prepared TKM kart it took him a while to get used to the lack of power and no gearbox.

But by the end of testing he was as fast as any of the regular drivers on the track where he won the club championship with a 100 per cent record in 1999 in the TKM class.

With a large grid the heats were a war of attrition and Freke's results of 11th, second and seventh gave him grid three for the A final.

With clouds looming over the track the karts were sent out to race on a dry track hoping that it would stay that way.

A good start moved Freke into second place on the first corner and than into the lead three corners later.

For five laps it stayed the same with the second place kart struggling to keep on terms with him.

But then a red flag stopped the race after the noise meter wires collapsed leaving the equipment dangling over the track and putting the drivers at risk.

As the race resumed for the last seven laps it began to rain and Freke led off on the greasy track to record yet another victory.

His next outing will be at Silverstone on November 6 and 7 in the Walter Hayes Trophy meeting for Formula Ford 1600 cars where he will race the Century Motorsport Jamun M89 car.
