BEWDLEY Town begin the defence of the Worcestershire Junior Cup this weekend with local rivals Wyre Forest standing in their way.

Manager Craig Payton takes his West Midlands League division one high-fliers to the Kidderminster League club insisting they will not under-estimate their hosts.

Bewdley won the competiton last season, beating Malvern Town 3-0 in the final, and it is a trophy Payton is keen to retain.

"For clubs like us it's our European Cup and it's quite prestigious to win," he said.

"I've got a lot of respect for Wyre Forest and their coaches Jack and Joe Wassell and Dave Salters.

"We won't be taking them lightly and I'm sure they'll make it hard for us.

"But we'll all have a drink together afterwards."

Gavin Smith plays his last game before a 35-day ban for a recent sending off.

Bewdley's league match at Walsall Wood last weekend was postponed because of the weather.
