A TRY and a penalty from fly half Lee Philp helped Stourport to an 8-8 draw with Dudley Kingswinford in North Midlands Two South.
The game started off well, with possession and attacking play even, but despite scoring chances aplenty, defences held firm.
With 30 minutes of the first half gone, and still no scores, Stourport were deep into DK's half.
They managed to loose a scrum five yards out, but as the DK scrum half passed the ball back, Philp intercepted to touch down just left of the posts for an unconverted try.
At the interval, the score remained 5-0, but soon into the second half, DKs came back with a try to level the scores.
Stourport played extremely good attacking play spending the majority of the match in the opponents' half.
With 20 minutes to go, Philp managed to successfully convert a penalty taking Stourport into an 8-5 lead.
The pressure was on them to retain this lead and DKs came close to scoring on several occasions before drawing level from a last gaps penalty.
The Walshes Meadow men were disappointed that they were unable to secure a win but will take heart from the performance when they host Bredon Star at Walshes Meadow at 3pm on Saturday.
Tries from Mark Andrews, captain Ed Osborn and man-of-the-match Kirk Gleeson helped Stourport seconds to a 15-5 win over Dudley Kingswinford Wasps.
Stourport put their opponents under early pressure and reaped the rewards when Andrews went over from a penalty for an unconverted try.
Good forward play then gave the backs the quality ball they need to put Osborn in to score in the corner.
Gleeson made it 15-0 at the break after a great blind side break led to his fine solo chip and run.
The second half was a reversal of the first with DK's entrenched in Stourport's 22 but resolute defending held them at bay for 20 minutes.
An inability to clear their lines or retain possession cost them as DKs scrambled over to score, but it was merely a consolation.
The improving seconds are away at Stourbridge Lions at 3pm on Saturday.
