Worcester City are to hold a collection during Saturday's home Nationwide North fixture against Altrincham to raise cash for long-term injury victim Aaron Kerr.

The Northern Ireland Under 21 goalkeeper is out of action for at least 12 months after rupturing lateral knee ligaments during City's goalless draw against Alfreton Town on October 8.

It is feared the damage could be career-threatening and his right leg is currently in plaster as he begins the long road to recovery.

Former Walsall stopper Kerr, 21, proved something of a saviour when he agreed to answer City's SOS call following a month-long rib injury to the club's number one goalkeeper Danny McDonnell.

He made seven appearances for Worcester on a game-by-game basis and jetted to and from Northern Ireland and his native Carrickfergus on almost every occasion.

City's board agreed to organise a cash collection as a gesture and supporters can make their own donation when buckets are handed around at half-time on Saturday.

Worcester City chairman Dave Boddy said: "Aaron helped us out when Danny was injured and impressed everybody, not just with his performances but his personality off the pitch. He is such a nice lad and was a good character to have around.

"People are always asking how Aaron is doing because he really warmed to them. Supporters have intimated that they would like to contribute and this is a way of doing so.

"The players have also organised a collection amongst themselves and the directors will be making a contribution as well.

"It was such a terrible injury for Danny and everybody at the club feels for him. We are keeping in contact with him regularly. He was looking to get back into football and this injury will stop him from working for the next 12 months."
