POLICE have been asked to carry out an investigation after a woman changed her mind over an allegation of rape and admitted telling lies.
Craig Wright, aged 19, of Broadwaters Drive, Kidderminster, had denied the charge at Worcester Crown Court.
The prosecution offered no evidence when the case came before the court again for mention and he was discharged.
Miss Samantha Forsyth, prosecuting, said the woman had since admitted that she had lied about the rape allegation and that sex had been consensual. In those circumstances, there was no realistic prospect of a conviction.
Judge Andrew Geddes said it had been a very serious allegation to make.
