THIS Worcester League Division One game was the same old story for West Malvern, players unavailable and players failing to turn up.

KOINONIA 2, WEST MALVERN 2

The game was played in atrocious conditions with continual rain making the pitch more suitable for water polo. Although both teams attempted to play football, it was difficult at times.

Koinonia were in front after 15 minutes. The ball was played into the box and centre back Andy Pugh missed his kick completely to give their centre forward the easiest of tap-ins.

The West drew level in the 33rd minute when Derek Browne, playing in the unusual position of centre midfield, beat three men and crashed the ball home.

The West continued to dominate the play but failed to make the most of the chances they created. In the 40th minute they were in front when good work by newcomer Mitchell Probert resulted in Jamie Bell driving the ball home from the edge of the box.

The second half was a ding-dong affair but for most of the time the West were in charge. They made the fatal mistake of relaxing with five minutes to go and in the 88th minute they paid the ultimate price. Andy Pugh, facing his own goal, drove the ball back to the keeper only to see it finish up in the back of the net.

Both sides should be congratulated on playing an exciting game in atrocious conditions.

The West are at home tomorrow (Saturday) against Littleton Reserves, kick-off 2pm, players report to dressing room 1.15pm or contact manager in morning due to the bad conditions.

West Malvern are sponsored by the Cross Keys and Amey.
