I am most grateful to Arthur Molton (Your Letters, October 22) for clarifying the situation.
I had wrongly assumed that people living in the countryside respected its ways and traditions. Obviously, as I have only lived in the countryside for a mere 32 years, I have as yet much to learn. However, I have also lived for many years in towns and cities, both at home and abroad and know only too well how they work.
It is apparent that there are some countrymen, like Mr Molton, who are opposed to hunting, and that there are some city dwellers who are fully supportive.
I met one of the latter last year in London; he was a life-long Labour supporter who had served on Sheffield City Council with one David Blunkett and was on the Countryside Alliance march as he enjoyed hunting rabbits with his two terriers on the Yorkshire Moors. No 'town and country split' there, then.
J H Ling, Old Colwall.
