NEWTOWN travelled to Mostyn hoping to pick up three points after a disappointing display the previous week but suffered another defeat and for the second week running had a goal disallowed.
MOSTYN RANGERS 4, NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U16S 2
For most of the match Newtown outplayed their opponents who, relied on the long ball down the centre of the park. Mostyn opened the scoring after six minutes but Newtown were soon level when Lee Jenkins skilfully beat the keeper. Newtown looked up for the challenge and hard work from Lewis Vine seemed to have given Newtown the advantage when a long range effort went over the keeper's head, but the ball was deemed to have gone over the crossbar and entered the net through a hole. The best goal of the match was from a great run by Mickey Pearson, his accurate cross headed home by Lee Jenkins. Newtown tested the Mostyn defence and Tom Chadney and Lewis Vine got some quality balls into the area but to no avail.
The second half again saw Newtown play the better football but their defence couldn't control the speed of the Mostyn forward and gifted him two more goals.
Newtown's man of the match was Lewis Vine.
MALVERN UNITED U16S 2, NORTHWAY U16S 2
MALVERN United expected a tough game against league leaders Northway and the non-appearance of the official referee increased their expectations.
Both teams attacked from the off and United's keeper Alex Jenkins was forced to make numerous quality saves before Northway took the lead after 21 minutes from a failure to clear a corner. Malvern's midfield dynamo Zach Blood had to go off injured but the introduction of Craig Baker ensured normal service was resumed.
On the half hour Andy Nolan's throw picked out Dom Portman in the centre and he fired low and straight through the keeper's legs into the back of the net for the equaliser.
The second half started with United in buoyant mood and Tom Tandurella found Liam Harford. He deftly flicked on to Scott Roberts, who made no mistake from close range and give United the lead. Northway piled on the pressure looking for the equaliser and as usual Dom Portman, Josh Stafford, Andy Gomez and Ollie Schoolcraft had to mop up for United. Andy Nolan thought he had increased United's lead but his distance lob hit the cross bar. A free kick in the 68th minute gave Northway the equaliser as the teams played out a well deserved draw.
WELLAND JUNIORS U16S 11, PERSHORE U16S 0
WELLAND welcomed their latest visitors to the Hill Centre fully expecting to win and that's just what they did.
Within the opening two minutes Wellands' forwards hit the bar and forced the visitors' keeper into several saves, setting the scene for the rest of afternoon. Tom White placed a perfect cross from the right onto the head of striker Joel Hobbs, who planted a firm header into the back of the net for his and Welland's first goal. By half time Joel Hobbs had already completed his hat-trick and midfielder Bruce Rogers had added a fourth, his first for the club.
The second half bought another seven goals including a fourth by Joel Hobbs and one from captain, Joe Waldron but the pick of which had to be Guy Habbitts and Russell Aldersons' excellent solo efforts. Guy Habbitts cut in from the left, ran across the entire 18-yard area before turning sharply and thumping home an unstoppable shot.
Russell Alderson then took on the Pershore defence leaving a trail of flailing defenders in his wake before rounding the keeper to complete an impressive hat-trick.
Man of the match, sponsored by Pete and Sue Butler, was four-goal hero Joel Hobbs.
WORCESTER RAIDERS 3,
NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U14S 9
THE match had to be switched to an away fixture in order for the game to take place.
For the first 15 minutes Newtown looked unsure but the team was shuffled and as a result looked more assured. Tom Clack and Richard Doyle were strong at the back, with Ian Puffett inspired, Lee Gittins looked at his best on the left side of midfield. It was Newtown who took the lead, Danny Robinson threaded the ball through the Raiders defence, Josh Butler drew the keeper and slotted the ball calmly into the corner.
Worcester responded quickly when Bobby went on a strong run and sent a ferocious shot high into the Juniors' net. Newtown forced a number of corners and it was from one of these that James McCann rose to head the ball home and give Newtown a 2-1 half-time lead.
In the second half Newtown took control and for the first time this season cut loose. The midfield of Lean and Mason were winning all the possession and Butler added a second half hat-trick, McCann a further two and Gittins chipped in with a brace to make it nine. Raiders' Bobby did add a further two goals for his side.
Newtown's man of the match was Ian Puffett.
The team are sponsored by Wells Joinery Ltd.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS COLTS U10S 1, OMBERSLEY COLTS 3
THE final scoreline did not do justice to Malvern's good form in this evenly balanced match.
Brent Gibbs, Harry Tawse, and Brandon Hudson all produced attacking play from the off and were unlucky not to score in the first 10 minutes despite several strong shots. Ombersley Colts rallied though and scored once before half-time, despite the excellent goal-keeping skills of Pete Shepherd, and the firm defensive action from Myles Cunningham.
In the second half, Stan Mason scored the equalizer with a powerful shot into the corner and Josh Seabourne and Joel Wright kept the pressure up right until the end. Callum Bradford and Max Howie worked well at the back but Ombersley Colts got through the defence twice more, with Malvern hitting the crossbar from a well-taken free kick from Stan Mason, and just unable to produce goals from well-made chances.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U9S 1,
LEIGH & BRANSFORD BADGERS 2
THE Badgers took the points in this entertaining and keenly fought match.
From the start the Badgers went on the attack and managed to create a couple of chances which they were unable to capitalise on. After this initial pressure the Wanderers came close on several occasions, either shooting just wide or shots being saved by Nicholas Snowdon in goal. At the other end the Badgers continued to create chances with Charlie Wilce going close and Daniel Roberts had a great shot which hit the bar.
The second half started as the first with the Badgers on the attack. Within two minutes of the restart the Badgers took the lead, Harry Twinbarrow picked up the ball on the left and beat a couple of players before placing the ball past the Wanderers goalkeeper. The Badgers kept up the pressure and five minutes later they extended their lead, Daniel Watson squeezing the ball in from a very tight angle. The Wanderers were not disheartened and they were rewarded when they fired home a good shot from a corner. Both teams should be pleased with their performances, producing a very exciting match.
