SUB-ZERO temperatures, ice and snow failed to stop Worcestershire YFC leaders from warming to their tasks on their annual Club Officers Activity Weekend.

Whether they were abseiling, climbing, building rafts or clambering over assault courses, the YFC officers kept on smiling.

The aim of the weekend was to help members develop a range of leadership skills to run their clubs more effectively.

Officers' confidence, communication, organisation, diplomacy and ability to compromise were all tested over the two-day event.

Some learnt more quickly than others.

Karen Audis, for example, soon learnt the value of ineffective communication after Lou Saunders directed her into a lamp-post during one of the "blind trails".

Dan Bussey realised the importance of teamwork when James Rowley nearly launched him into the freezing water during the raft-building exercise, while Helen Rooke found the pond to be deeper than initially thought upon closer inspection.

The weekend, held at Manor Adventure, Craven Arms, Shropshire, was organised by county chairman Demelza Audis and vice-chairman Dene Hazelwood.
