HENRY Harbon, labourer, residing at Evesham Road, Headless Cross, in custody, was charged on remand with attempting to commit suicide on Saturday, the 18th inst.
Arthur Hill, of 78 Evesham Road, Headless Cross, needle pointer, stated that about nine o'clock on Saturday night he was working in the Soudan allotments when he heard a man make a groaning noise as if he was in trouble.
He ran to the pool in Canon Newton's Park and there found the prisoner lying on his back in the centre of the pool.
The water was deep enough to cover him. Witness entered the water to try to help prisoner out.
He missed the hold the first time, then he caught hold of Harbon by the ear and held him up while he shouted for help.
Two gentlemen came to his assistance and with their aid he, got him out.
Harbon's clothes were found near the pool. He appeared to have had some beer.
Prisoner was bound over in his own recognisance of £3 to come up in a month's time to answer further to the charge.
