BECAUSE of the shortage of teachers in local schools, Redditch Urban District Council is to build 12 houses for schoolmasters and their families, if permission is granted by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.
A letter from the Redditch District Education Committee, read at last Thursday's meeting of the Housing Estate's Committee, said that there were a number of vacancies for teachers in local schools, caused by staff leaving the district and not being replaced.
The letter said that teachers were not coming to the district because of the difficulty of obtaining accommodation and asked if, in view of the detrimental effect of the shortage on the children, a certain number of houses could be reserved for school staff.
