WORCESTER City won back some pride and top spot last night with a 2-0 victory over Hinckley United at St George's Lane.

Goals from Jon Holloway and Al-lan Davies settled a scrappy affair to ease the disappointment of Saturday's 4-0 defeat at Crawley.

The win also leap-frogged them to the top of the Dr Martens Premier Division although Nuneaton and Weymouth, who are in action tonight, can move back above them if they win.

Captain Carl Heeley, back in the side for Barry Woolley who picked up two cracked ribs at Crawley and faces up to four to six weeks out, admitted it had been a crucial win for the club.

"The most important thing was that we had to show some fight in our performance after Saturday," he said.

"Against a side (Hinckley) re-nowned for their fighting qualities we had to see off a bit of pressure in the first 15 minutes and we did.

"I think Crawley caught us on the worst day of the season and we won't get another one of them.

"Everyone had a poor game, we defended poorly and didn't get close enough. It was just a bad day and the only good thing was that it came at the start of the season.

"The important thing is that it gave us a kick up the back side and last night was a good test to have and I think we got a little bit of pride back."

Manager John Barton was pleased with the victory but insisted his side still had to raise their game.

"We are not kidding ourselves in the manner in which we achieved the victory," he said.
