SPACE was given on this page last week to an article which hinted that the days of the Palace Theatre, Redditch, as a theatre, were numbered, and which made several suggestions for keeping the place open and thriving.

There have been only two responses to that article and while both parties, whose letters are published this week, have the wider interest of the town and its people at heart, both must admit they also have a narrower reason for wanting to see the Palace retained as a theatre.

What are we to make of the other 30,000? It would be wrong, perhaps, to say that those who have taken no interest this week will never do so. Some people take a long time to react, and an even longer time to do anything about it. Only the people of the town can decide.

Even the Palace cannot be kept open for two dozen people.
