Solihull Borough 1 Redditch United 1
IT was the late, late show for the Reds as substitute striker Richard Burgess netted five minutes before time to hand his side a point at Damson Park.
In a tactical change, United boss Rod Brown left out wide-men Matty Hall and Alex Cowley - preferring Craig Woodley playing 'in the hole'.
And the new system seemed to be working with Martin Myers heading just wide from skipper Mark Taylor's 10th-minute corner.
But on the half-hour mark, all Brown's tactics went out of the window as Richard Softley pulled up with a hamstring injury and was replaced by Alex Cowley.
It was better news for the Reds five minutes after the interval as Solihull's Ian Cooper was shown a straight red after what seemed to be an elbow on Woodley.
With Borough down to 10 men, United dominated possession and brought on Hall to spread the game further but even he couldn't find the opening for United.
Then, with 10 minutes to go, the unthinkable Solihull goal came as Borough's lone striker, Paul Hunter, clipped in for Morton Titterton to head home.
But top-of-the-table Redditch continued to press and equalised to snatch a precious promotion point.
Substitute Cowley had his shot parried by Solihull 'keeper Mark Gayle only for Burgess to run in and score.
After the game, Reds manager Rod Brown said: "The result doesn't bother me - what concerned me was we haven't created enough chances against them.
"We had all the possession and kept the ball and after they went down to 10 men, they kept us out.
"After the game I had a chat with them in the changing rooms and told them we didn't deliver because we didn't put enough balls into the box. We have top strikers who thrive on balls into the box."
Redditch United: Richard Anstiss, Neil Manton, Matt Gardiner, Mark Taylor, Quentin Townsend, Craig Woodley (sub Hall 61), Martin Myers, Richard Softley (sub Cowley, 31) Richard Leadbeater, Scott Voice (sub Burgess 71), Jimmy Quiggin.
