LEON Kelly suffered an injury scare in Worcester City's 3-0 win at Stourport Swifts last night.
The forward picked up a dead leg after a bruising challenge from former Atherstone team-mate John Newall.
Kelly, scorer of two of City's goals, was forced to limp off after 31 minutes, but the striker remains hopeful of being fit for Saturday's league opener with Havant & Waterlooville. "I was forced to come off because it was hurting too much but it should be OK for Saturday," said Kelly.
"I'll know more after treatment but it's a shame because I was looking to score a few goals to build my confidence and I'd already bagged a couple", he added.
Meanwhile City manager John Barton has told Kevin Halliday he can play a key role at the club after he signed non-contract forms for the club.
The full back, who picked up a knee injury against Bishop's Cleeve, had sought assurances from Barton after late interest from Chippenham Town and Bath City.
