JOHN Barton will demand more desire and urgency from his Worcester City side in tonight's final pre-season friendly at Stourport Swifts (7.45).

City's manager was unhappy with Friday's 2-1 defeat at Bishop's Cleeve and with places still to be decided for next Saturday's league opener against Havant & Waterlooville will not stand for any complacency.

"I've got an idea for eight or nine places but there is still a chance for players to force themselves into contention," he said.

"I was not happy with the display at Bishop's Cleeve," added Barton. "It was a difficult game and obviously when you go to these places they are up for the game but so should we be.

"There was a little bit of a better attitude and application in the second half but I will be looking for a marked improvement tonight.

"Ultimately it is down to the players because we have got some serious competition and they have to respond to it.

"Bishop's Cleeve may not be the most glamorous match but that is where a good many of the better judges in the game will make their assessments."

Barton has still to finalise a deal with trialist Kevin Halliday who misses tonight with a knee injury and is also a doubt for the Havant clash. Adam Webster, nursing a slight calf strain, is unlikely to be risked but Adam Wilde should return.
