Redditch District Education Committee has approved the plan to convert Redditch County High School into a combined grammar and technical school with accommodation for about 900 pupils instead of the present figure of just over 500.
The full scheme is expected to cost about £140,000 and will be started in about 10 months' time.
It will take two years to complete and will represent a saving of £20,000 of the cost of a new school.
