Worcester Cathedral has been short-listed in a competition to find the Seven Wonders of the West Midlands.
The ancient building will be competing against 26 other attractions, including Ironbridge, Warwick Castle, Weston Park and Birmingham's Bullring shopping centre.
The Dean of Worcester, the Very Rev Peter Marshall, said: "People are quite impressed when they visit the Cathedral for the first time because of the space inside.
"It captures their imaginations because the ceiling is so high and it is well lit."
The Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Allah Ditta, said that while the Cathedral was an impressive building, the Guildhall would be his choice if he had to nominate another city building because of its history, architecture and the fact it is the centre of Worcester's democracy.
"The Cathedral is on the £20 note. I wouldn't mind the Guildhall being on the £10 note," said Coun Ditta.
Professor Carl Chinn, who has written more than 20 books about the West Midlands and Birmingham, selected the buildings using strict criteria including beauty, historical significance, international recognition and regional importance.
"There are some wonderful buildings with amazing pasts and architecture like Worcester Cathedral, as well as some new attractions that bring visitors to the area," he said.
"Everyone has a favourite piece of history which they will want to support."
The light-hearted competition, which is being run throughout November by Banks's brewery, in more than 1,500 pubs and 200 supermarkets across the region, also includes the football stadiums of the region's six biggest football clubs Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Walsall, West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Everyone who votes for the most popular wonder will be entered into a prize draw to win a trip to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon.
The winning wonders will be announced on Monday, November 29.
