CANDLES, scented open fires and soothing music have been introduced at a Worcester pub, as an antidote to the stresses and strains of modern life.
Landlord Darren Barson has even produced a relaxation guide for guests at the Nightingale, Evesham Road, in an effort to help them recharge their batteries.
He came up with the idea after reading media reports saying that people no longer know how to relax.
"People are often very tense because what they deem to be relaxing, like watching TV, is actually no good at helping you unwind," he said.
"You need to disengage different parts of your brain, so we have introduced things that may help.
"We've created snug areas where our open fires will be lit, our music will be adapted and we will put out candles on the tables - all things you are told to do to create an atmosphere for relaxing.
"I have put together a relaxation guide which lists some practical ideas that people can use when they leave the tranquillity of our inn."
n Today marks National Stress Day, and the Chamber of Commerce of Herefordshire and Worcestershire is treating workers to a host of relaxing complementary therapies at its main office Enterprise House, Castle Street, Worcester. For more information call 0700 0780430 or log onto www.isma.org.uk
