A HOUSING association will re-submit an amended application to build affordable houses in Fernhill Heath, near Worcester.

However, Rhydian Morris, a resident of Agatha Gardens, which was originally proposed as the sole access route to the O'Keys Farm site, told the Evening News that he could not see how any modification would be satisfactory to the residents.

Wychavon District Council last month refused planning permission for the 15 homes on the grounds that a bend in the road in Agatha Gardens had poor forward visibility for motorists.

Mr Morris said the bend is supposed to have a forward visibility of 82ft (25m) for motorists but in actual fact only has a forward visibility of 65ft (20m), which meant that it was already sub-standard.

"At the moment, 25 houses can be served by a bend of that nature," said Mr Morris.

Problem

"It is already serving 27 houses. Any additional houses are going to be a problem.

"I cannot see what kind of application the association is going to put through which is going to be satisfactory."

The residents of the two roads, also argued that increased traffic would potentially pose a risk to children who played outside their homes, that the site is Green Belt land and that the development would have conflicted with planning policies.

Rebecca Bailey, Evesham and Pershore Housing Association's communications officer, said: "We are currently looking into the reasons for the refusal and we hope to resubmit the planning application later this year."

She said the association did not want to appeal against the previous application's refusal because it would be better, all round, to find a solution that residents would be happy with.
