RELEGATION battlers Kidderminster Harriers will have a welcome distraction from their Coca-Cola League Two scrap in the form of a Friday night FA Cup extravaganza.

Harriers' intriguing first round visit to Port Vale has been switched to Friday, November 12, after talks with police. Neighbouring Stoke City and Crewe Alexandra clash on the same weekend.

Friday was considered a better alternative to Sunday and Kidderminster assistant boss Gary Barnett admitted: "Playing a cup tie under lights always creates an extra buzz.

"But it doesn't matter what day the game is played, we will need a big performance from the players."

According to Vale, cash-strapped Harriers have rejected any price reduction for the clash after two proposals by the hosts, who are 16th in League One, to lower their charges.

After taking Midlands giants Wolves to a replay in the third round last season, Harriers will be hoping to create an upset and launch a much-needed money-spinning run.

They will come up against former player Dean Glover, a centre-half in their Conference days, who is now assistant manager to Martin Foyle.

Glover will warn against complacency, adding: "It is obvious Kidderminster are a hard-working team who are finding that things are going against them at the moment.

"They are fighting for everything. With Jan Molby going, things will be changing around there, though they don't have much money for new players."

Meanwhile, Harriers, currently under the caretaker control of Shaun Cunnington, had to cancel their Central Conference Reserve League clash at Bromsgrove Rovers last night.

With their injury problems and the youth team entertaining Mount Nod in the Midland Floodlit League Cup tonight (7.30pm), the club were unable to field a side.
