EVESHAM United blew their chance to go top of Southern League Division One West when they were held to a 0-0 draw by lowly Thame United at Common Road.

The point, however, was enough to lift Evesham into second spot and extend their unbeaten league run to seven games.

They were never going to lose against a Thame side content to play for a draw and should really have claimed the win on the number of chances they created.

In front of their lowest league crowd of the season, Danny Williams was the main threat for Evesham in the first-half and twice 'keeper Steve Smith made smart saves to deny the winger.

The second-half continued in the same vein with the hosts doing most of the pressing -- Lee Knight put his header wide and Leon Blake blasted over after a clear run.

Smith touched Williams' shot onto a post and Evesham had two penalty appeals for fouls on the same player turned down.

Just after Darren Moore blazed over Thame's only shot at goal all game, Grant Pinkney struck the visitors' bar with a measured lob.

For the second game running, Evesham almost snatched a late winner but, with the match's last kick, Williams had his shot blocked on the goal-line by Mark Avery.
