THE pedestrianisation of the High Street in Droitwich Spa should be totally rejected.
Remember when it was pedestrianised between 9.30am and 4.30pm some years ago? It nearly died. Wychavon's plans have already virtually destroyed what was left of the High Street by building Waitrose and moving the parking well away. When the marina is located away from the town, the shops will lose further possible custom.
The only thing that would help currently is to reverse the traffic flow by coming in at the Raven off the old A38 down by the Job Centre and out up to the High Street. Scrap the new clock idea and use the money to develop a bigger and better music festival.
Cllr Terry Spencer did a good job getting the music festival going. I would ask him to apply his mind to the Spa's benefit. Build a large community centre by the lido where bands could perform in inclement weather, then rent it to a hospitality or hotel group who could redevelop the new all-weather lido and restaurant. You have got most of the money from William Davis, I am sure other builders would make suitable donations.
Come on Terry, there may be a statue in it for you as the man who recovered Droitwich Spa - like the phoenix from the ashes left by Wychavon policies!
