MEMBERS of the Inner Wheel Club of Droitwich Spa were welcomed to the Raven Hotel for their October meeting by the president, Patricia Phillips, who introduced the district chairman, Shirley Clutton, who was the speaker for the evening. Following a buffet-supper, the business of the meeting included information about the continuing enthusiastic support for the Teddies for Tragedies project and that the sum of £550 was raised at the enjoyable prize bingo and pudding evening, organised by the president in aid of her chosen charity for the year - St Richard's Hospice.
The district chairman then spoke to members about the variety of fundraising ventures around the district and the many charities which have been supported in Droitwich, as elsewhere.
Shirley talked about her own charity for her year in office, The Arthritis Research Campaign. She emphasised that for the district to continue to flourish, local support and participation in the work of the district committee are essential. New ideas and new energy are required, with volunteers willing to take on district officer roles, so that the committee can evolve and the tradition of friendship and service be maintained, at both local and district level.
Many entertaining speakers have been enjoyed over the years at the annual fellowship meeting of Droitwich Spa Inner Wheel, held at the Raven Hotel. Plans are already well advanced for the next Fellowship in March 2005 when the guest speaker will be Katie Smith, of BBC Hereford and Worcester. The next fundraising event will be a ploughman's lunch at Rotary House in Droitwich. Further details can be obtained from Patricia Phillips on 01905 345484.
