A MAJORITY of villagers in Belbroughton support an affordable housing scheme according to a recent survey.
The survey - carried out by a group of residents last month - has shown 67 per cent of the 304 people asked were in favour of affordable housing, with 33 per cent against.
Two potential sites for the development highlighted by villagers are the Glebe and Hartle Lane.
The Glebe site is about half the field immediately around the Glebelands Surgery, with access directly through the doctor's existing car park.
The Hartle Lane site could be between houses 64 and 82 but has not been recognised by the council as a potential site as yet.
Villagers who took part in the survey were in favour of the Hartle Lane site with 48 per cent of people choosing that option, with 41 per cent choosing the Glebe site. Eleven per cent of those asked showed no preference.
Belbroughton Parish Council will be asking Bromsgrove District Council to consult closely with villagers before entering any planning application.
Villagers also used the survey to express their concerns about the issue.
The major concerns for residents included development of a Green Belt site and increased traffic the development may cause.
One concerned villager said: "It needs to be looked at in the whole context of the village, the Glebe land development would make already awful parking and traffic problem simply unbearable."
Residents will now be given the chance to put across their concerns and to look at the proposal in more detail at a future exhibition and meeting about the scheme. A date is yet to be decided.
