ENTERPRISING pupils at a Droitwich Spa school have made a tower of hats in aid of a good cause.
Girls at Whitford Hall and Dodderhill School created 101 hats for Operation Christmas Child.
The project started back in September, when Claines woman Barbara Wardle contacted our sister paper the Worcester Evening News, appealing for residents to donate scraps of material.
Two readers responded with mountains of fleece.
"I decided that knitting hats would be less productive - and fun - than making fleece ones.
"The generous response from readers gave us a great start," said Barbara.
She then enlisted the help of pupils at the Crutch Lane school to turn the material into hats for children of all ages.
The original target was 50, but soon the tower of hats grew to 100 and they decided to make one more for luck.
Students studying GCSE textiles also got involved donating old hats, scarves and fleece jackets.
Barbara added: "The girls have really entered into the spirit of the appeal giving their spare time and enthusiasm to make it such a hit."
Operation Christmas Child is supporting the families of Beslan in Russia this year.
