A KIND-hearted couple has donated £200 to Droitwich Spa Girl Guides after the town mayor decided to decline funds raised for the cause through a psychic evening.
Barbara Donnison, spokeswoman for the guides, was delighted to confirm the anonymous town couple had handed over the money last Friday.
The cash has been donated after Droitwich Mayor, Councillor Anne Taft decided to decline the offer of the proceeds from a psychic evening last month.
The Friends of Droitwich Guides is one of Cllr Taft's chosen charities for her year in office, along with WaterAid.
Clairvoyant Julie Angel Guest had organised the evening at The Castle pub but was not able to contact the mayor before publicising that it was in aid of her charities.
The mayor, who only found out about the event through this paper, said this provoked two letters being written to her from distressed residents.
She added: "After consultation with the relevant parties, it was felt, on balance, to decline the donation from Ms Angel Guest."
She later added: "It has been noticed that recent media coverage has indicated that Droitwich Spa Town Council declined the donation, however, this is not the case as the mayor's charities are quite separate from the town council's activities."
She went on to confirm she was still raising money for her two charities, the Girl Guides and WaterAid.
"Yes, the mayor does need funding but all civic fundraising has to be carried out with official approval in order to alleviate any misunderstandings."
