IT would seem any work that is of value being done in Redditch to help the youth culture is fair game for Councillor Brunner to have a snipe at (Letters, October 27).

Fortunately, Councillor Rebecca Blake has broad shoulders and unlike Councillor Brunner, does not need publicity so people get to know who she is.

She has, since becoming a councillor, worked hard to make life better for our young people and just because Councillor Brunner is not getting her ward done first, she has thrown her rattle out of her pram.

It is not about earning brownie points, it is about doing things that make a difference for our young people.

Unfortunately, it would seem she has been taking lessons off number one whinger Karen Lumley.

Councillor Brunner has told of her groundbreaking plans to talk to the young people in Matchborough to see what they want. Councillor Blake and myself were doing this three weeks ago in Abbeydale, where we had children aged eight-15 meeting with ourselves and other council officials, including Angela Heighway, to discuss what they would like on their estate.

When it was announced three weeks ago there was a possibility we may lose post offices in Batchley and Abbeydale, Jacqui Smith MP didn't wait for a photo shoot to gain publicity. She heard on the Thursday morning about the closures and that afternoon we were out on the streets collecting signatures on petitions.

And then who is sent to save us, none other than Tory MP Theresa May, whose words of wisdom were: "One alternative is to see whether there is the possibility of putting the post office into other premises."

We do not want our post offices put anywhere else. We want them to stay were they are.
