FIREfighters who rescued a terrified boy trapped inside a recycling bin said they were "amazed" he wasn't hurt.
The Redditch crew released the boy, aged about eight, using hydraulic equipment after a passer-by spotted him stuck inside the book and magazine-recycling bin behind the shops at Winyates Centre last week.
Sub-officer Tony Ventura said: "We were amazed he escaped with no injuries as he could have done some serious damage to himself."
He said the schoolboy and his female cousin, of about the same age, had previously been wandering around the shopping centre.
"He was obviously bored during the school holiday and curiosity got the better of him," said Mr Ventura.
"He tried to scoop up a book inside the bin with his foot but slipped and fell in.
"When we arrived, all we could see of him was a pair of terrified eyes and his hands gripping tightly to the edge."
Mr Ventura said both children were shaken up and very relieved and thankful once the boy was freed.
"He came out looking very sorry for himself and said he'd never do it again."
