WYTHALL WI celebrated its 70th birthday with a medieval banquet. The village hall had been decorated by the craft group with knights, shields and ornamental candlesticks and they had also engraved a presentation spoon for each member. Everyone came in suitable costumes and the ''royal procession'' of president and committee members was piped in by the musicians for the evening, Arden Consort.
After being presented with the boar's head, the ''Queen'' invited everyone to be seated and passed the running of the evening to the Master of Ceremonies - Jo Chandler. She was helped or hindered by Joan Johnson as a Grumpy Jester and Sheila Lambert as the executioner. The banquet, which had been prepared by the committee , was served by local ''wenches'' who had been volunteered for the task by their so-called friends.
After the meal, Arden Consort entertained with suitable recorder music of the period.
To end the evening, there was a return appearance of the Wythall Ghosts, who had previously haunted a WI Group meeting. President Jill Warner thanked everyone who had been involved in such a happy birthday celebration.
