TRAVELLERS were finally forced to leave their camp in Oversley Green on Monday morning following a visit from police and council officials,
The move followed months of complaints from residents and much haggling between Alcester Town Council and Warwickshire County Council over land ownership.
The travellers moved onto the site in the summer, claiming they had nowhere else to go as they could not get a place at a permanent site.
Residents claimed they made their lives hell with mess and nuisance from dogs and they also raised concerns over environmental health issues.
On Monday, two police officers and representatives from highways and environmental health departments visited the site and asked the travellers to leave.
By the end of the day they were gone.
When town mayor Chris Gough heard the news on Monday night, he said: "That's brilliant. We can get that site cleared off and put a fence up now so they can't get back in. We cannot let that happen again."
The matter was due to be discussed at last night's town council meeting.
