CHARITY vehicles could soon be allowed free parking if plans by Malvern Hills District Council go through.
Officers are recommending that charities or similar organisations with community transport vehicles are allowed to park them for free across Malvern District as long as they display a community transport badge.
The idea came about following a request from the TocH Thumb-a-Lift scheme, which transports passengers unable to access public services to and from hospital appointments, for free off-street parking.
Under proposals being debated, requests from charity providers will be considered on a case-by-case basis to see if a concession is really needed.
District council spokesman Roger Sutton said: "Community transport vehicles provide a very important service, particularly in rural areas. If we can help them avoid parking charges on official trips we are very happy to do so."
