A WORCESTER hospice is to receive much-need funds after the city's Lions Club decided to donate proceeds from a forthcoming race night.
The Lions Club said it hoped to demonstrate their belief that "charity starts at home" after a year in which they have raised a lot of money for disaster-hit areas around the world.
St Richard's Hospice is aiming to raise £5.25m to build a new state-of-the-art building to include 15 "desperately-needed" palliative care beds.
St Richard's Hospice fund-raising manager Tricia Cavell said: "The race night sounds great fun and we're very pleased the Lions Club is helping to raise funds for our caring work with local people coping with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses."
Ray Sheldon, Worcester Lions Club president said: "However wide our remit, we never forget that charity begins at home. It must take a special kind of person to work in a hospice and as a service organisation, Worcester Lions are only too glad to help to sustain their work."
The race night, together with a charity supper, will take place at Lyppard Grange Community Centre in Warndon Villages on Saturday, November 13.
Proceeds will go to St Richard's Hospice and other Worcester charities.
Tickets for the event, which will also have a licensed bar, cost £6.50, which includes a buffet supper.
They can be bought on the night or in advance from The Lyppard Grange Community Centre in Ankerage Green, the Spar Supermarket opposite the centre or by calling Mark on 07866 559527.
