HAS anybody seen one? That is the question I have been asking in my search for that rarest of creatures.
Since last year, whenever I have passed a protection zone, several of which have now been established at great expense throughout the Wyre Forest district to encourage the re-emergence of this biped, I have given my utmost concentration in the hope of being rewarded with even a fleeting glimpse of what is proving to be an extremely elusive life-form.
Then, one Saturday morning, members of my family brought the frustration of my efforts to a head when they informed me that they had been presented a clear, unrestricted view of the species, while travelling past Kidderminster Golf Club, along Chester Road.
It was the middle-aged female form, and was visible for a full 10 seconds.
Then I was flabbergasted to learn that the creature was not even in its designated protection zone.
This, I think, proves my theory that the protection zones are too dangerous to attract those they were intended for and I conclude that they have been a disgraceful waste of tax payers' monies.
I wonder how many readers agree.
Oh, the subject of my letter? Cyclists using main road cycle lanes.
The one sighted was on the pavement.
Well, best to be on the safe side, eh?
