SKIPPER Charlie Wright saw his Worcester Hockey Club Men's Firsts continue to struggle after a 5-0 home defeat to Chesterfield.

Missing six players to Midlands Under 18 and 16 duty, Worcester, with just one win from five games, were punished for their mistakes.

And Wright said: "We cannot keep giving the ball away as we are, because if you do that at any level you will suffer. We missed a few guys but the guys that came in did really well and the spirit was there which has been lacking in the last few weeks.

"The only positive is that the league is still very open and there is plenty of opportunity to climb the table."

Worcester squandered possession on several occasions to trail 3-0 at half-time. The hosts' frustration was compounded when Ian Ewers was sin-binned.

The second-half followed a similar pattern, Chesterfield adding two more goals without reply.

n Tim Johnson scored Worcester's only goal as the Seconds were beaten 3-1 at Jaguar Coventry.

With many regulars unavailable, Worcester fell behind but rallied, equalising after Jez Drake played in Johnson to score. Despite dominating the second-half, Worcester were unable to add to their tally, while Coventry were ultimately too much.

n The Thirds recorded a 3-0 home victory over Edgbaston.

The deadlock was broken mid-way through the first-half when Andy Hares converted from a Dom Harris free hit.

Worcester scored again before the interval when Harris scored from close range following a quick break. Gerry Ogle converted a penalty kick for the third in the second-half.

n Weakened by commitments to higher club teams, the Fourths were hammered 11-0 at Loughborough.

n Worcester Fifths edged out Sutton Coldfield 3-2. The hosts started well and a quick flowing move saw Kevin Oliver score with the faintest of touches.

Sutton's pressure eventually paid off with an equaliser but Oliver had restored Worcester's lead by half-time.

Sutton were soon level again but Richard Poole hit the winner after being released by Tim Lamont-Smith.

n The Sixths lost 5-3 at Sutton Coldfield despite playing some of their best hockey of the season. Simon Tinley scored twice and Jerry Court once.

n An excellent performance from the Sevenths saw them win 4-0 at Kings Heath.

With only ten men from the start, Worcester played some superb hockey en route to their first clean sheet of the season. Ashley Watkins played particularly well at right back.

Converted

n Badgers White thrashed Solihull Blossomfield 8-1.

Tom Coleman opened the scoring with two goals in the first ten minutes. Josh White added two and Aiden Symonds converted a penalty stroke before half-time.

Blossomfield had pulled one back but the second-half saw Worcester run in three more goals, two for Gregor McLeod and one for new boy Tom Newman.

n Badgers Red recorded an impressive 5-2 victory at Evesham Badgers.

Close range efforts from Chris Kendall put the visitors 2-0 up before Evesham pulled one back. Worcester restored their lead going into the break.

Evesham scored early in the second-half but Worcester sealed victory with a fourth from Kendall and a spectacular effort from Tom Padden.
